This is the first State of Cheap Beer for New York. From 386 bars and 7,880 price observations logged since we began, one number frames it all: the median pour across the five boroughs and the river runs $8.

The price of a beer

The citywide median is $8, but bargains persist — the cheapest beer we found is a $2.75 draft at Wilton House in Hoboken. Neighborhood medians stretch from $6 in Williamsburg up to $12 on the Upper East Side-Yorkville. With 4,024 active prices tracked, the spread between cheap and steep has never been more visible.

Happy hour is New York's superpower: 77% of tracked bars — 299 of them — run one, and the typical bar offers roughly 20 hours of deals each week. The best deal we've logged at a happy-hour bar is a $3 Pabst Blue Ribbon at Do Or Dive.

What moved

Since we began tracking, price moves have been nearly balanced: 15 beers rose while 13 fell. It's a short window, but New York's cheap end is holding steadier than you'd guess.
